Bob Groff

Miss Agnes
When Bob Groff, a former Communications Program Specialist, retired from the Postal Service in 2001, he and his wife, Pamela, drove their newly purchased motor home to his former office in Boston, MA to bid his coworkers a fond farewell. Bob and Pamela took the road less traveled and toured the countryside for 2-1/2 months before returning to their hometown, Portland, OR. They were happy to, once again, live in the same area with their parents and children.
Once they settled in, Bob got his real estate license and taught himself Spanish. His ability to speak conversational Spanish came in handy while he worked as a real estate agent and enabled him to talk with the locals when he spent 2-1/2 months vacationing in Spain.
Pam fulfilled her lifelong dream by going back to school to get a degree in business communications, graduating with honors from Eastern Nazarene University.
Bob has a passion for collecting cars. One of his favorite cars is a classic rig, an electric orange vintage 1978 VW Camper Bus, that Bob calls “Miss Agnes.”
Bob also has a BMW z3 Roadster, a motorcycle, an Acura MDX and a Toyota Camry

Bob is also an avid outdoorsman. Oregon has rough winters, so the best time for Bob to entertain his passion for kayaking is to adorn his wet suit in the summer. In July 2009, Bob spent his July 4 holiday on Mt. Hood. Bob’s favorite places are kayaking along the coast and camping on Mt. Hood.
To stay energized, mentally alert and physically fit, Bob goes to the gym six days a week, often taking 2-3 exercise classes a day. According to Bob, going to the gym is invigorating and helps him keep up with his seven grandchildren. Bob’s large family keeps him busy with birthdays, anniversaries and holiday gatherings.
Bob lost his beloved wife, Pamela, to cancer in July 2006. Bob said his wife was beautiful, smart and altogether wonderful. They had a very happy marriage. His message to other retirees is to remain very active once you retire, especially if you lose your spouse. Never stop getting out of bed and getting the most out of every day. Find things to challenge you and find a hobby.
Bob can attest to the fact that there is a lot of life after retirement.

Bob Groff, former Communications Program Specialist in New England, collects cars, exercises regularly, loves the outdoors and recently celebrated the birth of his seventh grandchild.
