Retiree Spotlight
Marylou Krest
Twelve years ago Marylou Krest and her husband, Arch, took a vacation to the Dominican Republic. On a field trip to the northern province of Puerto Plata, one of the young children asked Marylou for a pencil and asked her husband for a baseball cap. What happened next changed all their lives and led to Krest’s recognition by the Minnesota Twins as an “All Star Among Us.”
The All Stars were chosen by baseball fans, Major League Baseball and People magazine for their community service. Nearly 750,000 votes were cast by fans across the nation, and Marylou was one of 30 finalists – one per Major League team – honored for her charitable work and selected to attend the American and National League All-Stars Game. Krest retired in 2008 after a 20-year postal career as a window clerk in her hometown of Lima, NY.
